Al Qana already presents a pretty robust collection of ‘take my money’ activities. In addition to an outstanding ensemble of world class restaurants and cafes, there is of course the Atlantian allure of The National Aquarium; the Grandiose Supermarket; Wellness Centre and gym, The Bridge; a scenic Marina; boat cruise; and alfresco food trucks.
And now, Abu Dhabi’s largest stand alone cinema — with monster-sized screens, high-end dining options, and luxurious VIP viewing suites — is now open.

Screen time
The 15-screen multiplex includes a 3DMAX viewing experience, a VIP Cinema, a Kids Cinema, XXL Theatre, Standard Theatre, Standard Plus Theatre, Arthouse Theatre, Presidential Theatre, the Backlot Cafe, Graffiti Lounge and Azul Lounge. And it’s able to accommodate a total of 9,000 movie-goers simultaneously.
Prices for standard tickets start at around Dhs37, with VIP viewing experiences from around Dhs120.

This movie directed by Olivia Wilde, has already enjoyed quite a bit of press in the build up to its release. There was some unsavoury, let’s say ‘LaBeef’ around role switch outs, intimate scenes, rogue mouth lubricant and character inspiration. But why shouldn’t a good drama be surrounded with, ahem, a bit of good drama? Set in 1950s America, it stars, current hot Hollywood Brit picks Florence Pugh and Harry Styles in the lead roles, a couple that move to what seems like an idyllic new community. Turns out, in news that will shock only those behind the fourth wall, it isn’t so #livingourbestlife afterall — and that the town’s founder, Frank (played by Chris Pine) might have sinister motives behind his Sim City utopia-tinkering.
Ticket to Paradise
“Yeah so 1994 called, they want their casting list back” — is not the tag line for the new Julia Roberts and George Clooney movie, Ticket to Paradise hitting screens this weekend — but it may as well be. The synopsis teases that a divorced couple head to Bali in order to stop their daughter from repeating their own romantic mistakes. We don’t know, but we’re assuming the rest of the run time is spent massaging a ‘will-they-won’t-they’ narrative on the rekindling of their love for one another. But the prospect of seeing these Oceans alumni reunited will likely provide more than enough box office pull for a certain generation. And if that’s you, take this as a reminder that you should be adding retinol into your skincare routine.
Bullet Train
Based on a Kōtarō Isaka novel, directed by David ‘John Wick’ Leitch and starring Brad Pitt in the lead role — there are a lot of reasons why we’re excited about Bullet Train. It’s a heist movie, based on a train with a hitman looking to retire, but is dragged back in for one last score. Ok it’s not the most original premise, but the elements are there for an action classic, and for that reason, you son of a gun, we’re in.
Beast
Idris Elba is no stranger to voicing the part of an animal in movies. Just off the top of our heads, there’s that time he played a buffalo in Zootopia, a tiger in The Jungle Book, a sea lion in Finding Dory, a cat in Cats, and most recently a space echidna in Sonic 2. He just has one of those deeply stirring voices. This new movie, expected to hit screens around mid August, has turned the tables a little bit and sees our man Idris along with his two daughters trying to evade a particularly rampant lion on the open plains of the African Savanna.
