UAE weather: Red alert issued for fog; temperatures set to hit 48°C in some areas

The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued red and yellow alerts early on Wednesday morning, advising residents to take caution amidst foggy conditions.

The alerts have been raised in some parts of Abu Dhabi due to fog formation, leading to poor visibility until 8.30am.

Here are the affected areas, according to the NCM.

The Met department expects Wednesday’s weather to be fair to partly cloudy — with temperatures hitting 48°C in Abu Dhabi’s Mezaira and Razeen, and 47°C in Sweihan and Al Ain.

It will be a mostly sunny day in Dubai, with temperatures ranging from 33°C to 40°C.

The NCM forecasts low clouds to appear over the eastern coast by morning, with a probability of some convective clouds formation by afternoon eastward.

It added that it will be humid by night and Thursday morning with a probability of mist formation over some coastal and internal areas.

There will be light to moderate southeasterly winds becoming Northwesterly winds, freshening at times, with a speed of 10–25 reaching 35kmph.

The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.
